My Child Does Not Like Reading!

My child does not like Reading!  Help!  TIPS FOR PARENTS-WHAT CAN I DO??

“A child grows in reading…by reading” by Guy L Bond.

Child Learning to Read

1- Use reading materials at a suitable level of difficulty for your child.  IF YOU ARE NOT SURE HAVE YOUR CHILD’S READING ABILITY LEVEL ASSESSED!

2- Use a variety of reading materials that include books, pamphlets, brochures/flyers, menus, bus schedules…

3- Are there reading process issues that need to be exercised and strengthened such as phonemic awareness, decoding/phonics, language development, and comprehension??

AGAIN, IF NOT SURE, HAVE YOUR CHILD ASSESSED.

4- Have your child write their own book.

5- Give your child an ‘interest inventory’ to determine reading material for them.

6-  READ TO YOUR CHILD AS THIS BUILDS THEIR INTEREST IN READING.

7-  BE A ROLE MODEL.  LET YOUR CHILD SEE YOU READING.
